Privacy Policy

What we collect when you visit latestsmp.com or play on LatestSMP, why we collect it, who else sees it, and how to ask us to see or delete it.

Who we are

LatestSMP is a Minecraft server and this website, latestsmp.com. LatestSMP is run by whiscey (whiscey.net), who decides how the information on this page is used. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean LatestSMP.

Questions, or want to use any of your rights? Email admin@latestsmp.com. You can also open a ticket in our Discord, but please use email for anything private.

What we collect

When you visit the website

  • Page views. Every page sends a small, anonymous page-view report to whiscey.net (our analytics, run by the same person). It contains the page you opened, the page that sent you here (the referrer) and your screen width. whiscey.net works out your rough country, device type and browser from the request. It doesn't store your IP address: it keeps a salted hash of your IP address and browser that changes every day, so a visit can be counted once without knowing who you are. No cookies are used.
  • Hosting logs. The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks, and our Worker's logs (requests and errors) are switched on so we can fix problems.
  • Things saved in your browser. The site saves two things in your browser's local storage, on your device only: player (the last Minecraft username you typed on the site, so you don't have to type it again) and latestsmp.theme (light or dark mode). We don't set cookies.
  • Content from other services. Fonts load from Google Fonts, player heads load from minotar.net and mc-heads.net, and the home page asks api.mcstatus.io how many people are online. Your browser contacts these services directly, so they see your IP address and browser details.

When you buy something

  • The Minecraft username you enter is checked with Mojang's services (api.mojang.com and api.minecraftservices.com) and playerdb.co to find your Minecraft UUID (your account's permanent ID). While you type, your head is loaded from mc-heads.net.
  • Your username and UUID are sent to PayNow, the payment provider and Merchant of Record for our store. PayNow runs checkout and handles your payment details under its own privacy policy. We never see your card details.
  • If order tracking is switched on, we keep a record of each order: the player name, what was bought and when.
  • What you bought is given to you, and later removed if it ends, by commands run on the game server.
  • Purchases may be announced in game chat, naming the player who bought.

When you play on the server

  • Your account: your Minecraft username and UUID.
  • Connection details: the IP addresses you join from, and when you join and leave (your sessions).
  • Chat and commands: what you type appears in the server's console logs.
  • Moderation records: warnings, mutes, bans and the reasons for them.
  • IP location: we look up IP addresses with ip-api.com to get the country, region, city, internet provider and whether it's a VPN or proxy. Only staff can see this; it helps us stop ban evasion and abuse.
  • Game stats: things like playtime, in-game money, blocks broken and placed, PvP kills and deaths.

Public leaderboards

The Leaderboards page shows the top players for each stat to anyone: their username, UUID (used to show their head) and the stat, such as playtime, in-game money or deaths. The owner is left off. If you'd rather not appear, email admin@latestsmp.com and we'll take you off.

Why we use it (and our legal basis)

Some privacy laws, like the UK and EU GDPR, ask us to say which legal reason we rely on. Ours are:

  • To give you what you bought (to perform our contract with you): checking your username and UUID, passing them to PayNow, keeping order records and delivering perks.
  • Our legitimate interests in running a safe, working server and website: running the game and the site, keeping them secure, moderating, stopping cheating and ban evasion, counting visits so we know what's useful, and showing leaderboards. We keep this to what's needed, and you can object (see your rights).
  • To follow the law, if we're ever legally required to keep or share something.

We don't sell your information, we don't show ads and we don't build advertising profiles.

Who we share it with

Only with services that help run LatestSMP, each for the reason listed:

  • Cloudflare: hosts the website and stores its data.
  • whiscey.net: our analytics and the game server network (run by the same person as LatestSMP).
  • Google Fonts: the website's fonts.
  • PayNow: checkout and payments.
  • Mojang's services (api.mojang.com, api.minecraftservices.com) and playerdb.co: finding the UUID for a username.
  • mc-heads.net and minotar.net: player head pictures.
  • mcstatus.io: the "playing now" count on the home page.
  • ip-api.com: IP location lookups for staff.
  • Discord: our community and support tickets, if you use them, under Discord's own privacy policy.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect players or the server from serious harm.

Where it's stored

Several of these services are based in, or store data in, the United States and other countries, so your information may be handled outside the country you live in. Where the law requires it, these services use recognised safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

  • Analytics: the daily hashes are kept for 100 days; visit totals (counts, with no hashes) for 400 days.
  • Hosting logs: kept by Cloudflare for a few days.
  • Browser storage: stays on your device until you clear it.
  • Order records: there's no automatic deletion; we keep them until we delete them or you ask us to (unless we have to keep them, for example to sort out a payment dispute).
  • Leaderboards: replaced with fresh numbers every 5 minutes; you're shown only while you're in the top 10.
  • Server console logs (including chat): 3 days.
  • Account, IP and session records: there's currently no automatic deletion; they're kept while you play and until you ask us to delete them.
  • Moderation records: kept as long as they're needed to keep the server safe, for example while a ban is in place.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:

  • see the information we have about you (access),
  • fix anything that's wrong (correction),
  • delete it (deletion),
  • stop using it for something you object to (objection), and
  • give you a copy in a common format (portability).

Email admin@latestsmp.com from any address and tell us your Minecraft username. We may ask you to show that the account is yours. We'll reply within a month. Some things we may need to keep, such as a ban record or what a payment law requires, and we'll tell you if so.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to a data protection authority, such as the ICO in the UK or the authority in your EU country. We'd appreciate the chance to sort it out first.

California residents: we don't sell or share personal information for advertising, and there are no ads here. You have the rights above, and we won't treat you differently for using them.

Do Not Track

Browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. We don't act on it, because there's no ad tracking on this site to turn off and our analytics don't use cookies or keep IP addresses.

Children

You need to be 13 or older to use LatestSMP, and many of our players are teenagers. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you're a parent or guardian and think your child under 13 has played or bought something, or you have any worries about your teen's information, email admin@latestsmp.com and we'll help, including deleting their information.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. For bigger changes we may also post in the Discord. See also our Terms.
